What is BBYO?
BBYO is a teen lead Jewish youth group. The organization is focused on creating interesting Jewish experiences for teens in grades 8-12. This is a great place to make lifelong friends, and to try out leadership if that interests you! DC Council encompasses all of the chapters in Montgomery and Howard County, as well as DC. DC Council is part of Northern Region East, which consists of DC Council, Northern Virginia, and Baltimore Council.
Why N'shama?
While there are many amazing chapters in the council, N'shama will give you a unique and rewarding sisterhood experience. We are a smaller chapter, with most members coming from Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Bethesda. Here in N'shama you will be welcomed with open arms no matter what. We have a diverse group of members and we are an extremely accepting community. We place a strong focus on sisterhood, and you will find that it is easy to make connections in our chapter. We strive to be a welcoming home for Jewish teens in our area. We love creative activities such as pottery painting and other arts and crafts. You will probably find us having a big group conversation while eating some sweet treats, with Noah Kahan playing in the background. We are always looking for more friends so don't hesitate to get in touch!
When does N'shama have events?
Every Saturday N'shama has programs from 7-9 PM, usually at a members house. This is where we do activities like arts and crafts or baking. Once a month we have a shabbat program on Friday night, also at a members house. We also have meetings about one Monday a month where we discuss the well-being of the chapter, and upcoming events. These meetings are typically held at the JCC from 7-8 PM.
What are prospects and MITS?
A prospect is somebody who is thinking about joining a chapter, but has not yet made it official. A MIT Rush is an event designed for prospects, to teach them more about a chapter. MIT stands for Member in Training. Once a prospect officially joins a chapter, they will be a MIT for their first term in the chapter. At the end of their first term, they will be inducted into the chapter.
